Two Main Seasons, Not One

Thailand is a large country, and its calendar actually has several different 'seasons' depending on the region. Generally, the west coast (Phuket, Krabi) and the Gulf (Koh Samui) don't always share the same rainy-season timeline — so 'when should I fly' is a question whose answer also depends on the specific destination.

The driest, most pleasant season across most of Thailand is between November and April — relatively pleasant temperatures, less humidity, and less chance of rain disrupting beach plans.

Rainy Season — Not Always a Reason to Skip

Between May and October there's a higher chance of rain, mainly on the Andaman coast (Phuket, Krabi). But 'rainy season' in Thailand usually doesn't mean continuous rain all day — it's typically strong, short downpours, and then the sun returns. Hotel prices tend to drop significantly during this period, making it a reasonable option for those flexible on dates who want to save.

What About Koh Samui?

Koh Samui and Koh Phangan, on the eastern side (Gulf of Thailand), run on a different calendar than the west coast — their least-recommended season is mainly October-November, not June-September like Phuket. If you're combining both a west-coast destination and Koh Samui in one trip, it's worth checking both calendars separately.
