Two Coasts, Two Completely Different Seasons
One of the common mistakes of first-time travelers is assuming the weather is similar across all Thailand's islands. Phuket (Andaman Sea, west) and Koh Samui (Gulf of Thailand, east) are actually two different climate systems with roughly opposite rainy seasons.

Beyond rain, general humidity also matters โ Koh Samui is usually slightly less humid than Phuket in the same months, a small but noticeable difference for those sensitive to humid heat. Temperatures themselves are similar on both coasts throughout most of the year, around 27-33 degrees.
What About Krabi and Koh Phangan
Krabi shares roughly the same seasonality as Phuket (both on the Andaman Sea). Koh Phangan shares seasonality with Koh Samui (both in the Gulf of Thailand) โ so if your route includes these pairs, the same comparison applies to them too.

If dates are fixed and can't change, worth planning your visit to the coast with the less good season at the start of your route (more flexibility to change plans if weather doesn't cooperate) and ending at the coast with the better season โ so the last impression of the trip stays positive.

The difference in seasons also affects the kind of holiday you get. On dry days in Phuket the sea is usually calmer, and you can head out on boats and to nearby islands. Boat trips depend on the sea more than on the rain. Even a cloudy day can be excellent for a cruise, while a sunny day with strong wind can be uncomfortable.
