Phuket: Patong, Kata, or Karon — Where Should You Really Stay?
Patong — Nightlife and Full Infrastructure
Patong is Phuket's most lively and developed area — a central beach, shopping, restaurants at every price range, and nightlife that lasts until morning (Bangla Road is the heart of it). It's also the area with the most hotel options, at every budget.
The downside: it's also the noisiest, least 'relaxed' area on the island. Not the address for those seeking quiet.

Kata offers a wide, beautiful beach with relatively gentle waves for beginner surfing, and a more family-friendly, relaxed atmosphere than Patong — but still with enough restaurants and shops within walking distance. A short drive from Patong (about 15 minutes) if you still want to go out there in the evening.
