Thailand for a Full Month — a Detailed A-to-Z Route Guide
A Full Month Changes the Rules of the Game
With a month, the pace can be significantly slower — 4-5 days per destination instead of 2-3, and no pressure to fit everything in. It's also enough time to revisit a destination you loved, or take a course (cooking, diving, yoga) that requires several consecutive days in the same place.
Those planning a full month trip should think of it less as a 'list of destinations' and more as three-four separate 'chapters' of the trip, each with a different pace and target crowd — that's exactly what prevents the burnout feeling that sometimes comes on long journeys.
Week 1: Bangkok and Ayutthaya
3 days in Bangkok, then a day or two in Ayutthaya (a comfortable day trip, or light overnight) — this history feels different when you're not pressed for time, and you can sit by Wat Chaiwatthanaram at sunset without watching the clock.

Chiang Mai (4 days), then Pai (3 days) — Pai requires a winding drive so it's better as an unhurried stop. You can also add Chiang Rai if time remains, or even less-known Lampang for those wanting a more genuine local atmosphere.

Phuket or Krabi as a base (5-6 days), then moving to the Gulf islands — Koh Samui, and if you want, also Koh Phangan and Koh Tao. With a month, you can also consider a full diving course (3-4 days) in Koh Tao instead of just visiting, or really rest with no plan on one of the quieter islands like Koh Lanta.

Worth checking visa rules (see our visa guide for Israelis) — a month is usually within the exemption period, but worth confirming based on your exact dates. Also worth planning 2-3 'nothing days' scattered between destinations — a full month at a tour-every-day pace is tiring even with lots of time.
Budget-wise, a full month is also the best opportunity to save — a longer stay in each place usually lowers the average price per night, see our daily budget guide for details.
Another Option: One Long Base Instead of Many Transfers
An alternative approach for a full month: choose one base per area (don't move every 3-4 days), and take day trips from there. This significantly reduces packing-unpacking time and commute travel, and especially suits those working remotely during the trip.
