Koh Phangan is known mainly for the Full Moon parties, but the island also offers calmer beaches in other areas. Close to Koh Samui by short ferry, and attracts mainly a young, backpacker crowd.

December–April. Worth checking the Full Moon Party date if you want (or don't want) to run into it.

A relatively isolated beach on the island's north, accessible only by boat or forest hike — much quieter.
Phaeng Waterfall מפל פאנג
A waterfall inside a national park at the island's center.
Secret Beach (Haad Son) החוף הסודי
A small, calm beach, less known than the main beaches.
Wat Khao Tahm וואט חאו טהם
A temple with an internationally known meditation center, offering Vipassana courses.

- •If you don't want to run into the Full Moon Party — check the exact date in advance and plan lodging away from Haad Rin.
- •The island's north and west are much quieter and suit those seeking a relaxed getaway, not parties.
- •Lodging prices jump dramatically around the Full Moon Party date — book well ahead if planning to arrive then.
