Koh Samui has its own airport, so it's easy to reach. Koh Phangan has no airport, and the way there is by ferry from Koh Samui or from the mainland, usually about half an hour to an hour from Samui, depending on the type of boat. How Long to Stay and When to Go
Four to five nights on each island is usually enough to get to know it, and you can cut it to three if time is short. What to Do on Each Island Beyond the Beach
On Koh Samui you can visit the Big Buddha, stroll through the Fisherman's Village in Bophut, where a walking market is held on Friday evenings, and take a day trip to Ang Thong Marine Park, which looks like a collection of green islands. Note that the park is sometimes closed during part of the rainy season, so it's worth checking.
On Koh Phangan you can walk to waterfalls, drive to secluded beaches and join yoga classes or retreats. The beaches in the north and east of the island are much quieter than Haad Rin, and anyone who comes to meet the island's calm side will find it there.
