How to Actually Get There
A bus or van from Bangkok (from Eastern Bangkok Bus Terminal, Ekkamai) takes about 2.5-3 hours to Ban Phe port, then a short ferry (about 30-45 minutes) to the island itself. You can also arrange a private transfer combining both parts, more convenient but more expensive than public transport.
There's no airport on or near the island โ all access is by land and sea, which makes it exactly the kind of short escape it's known for.
What to do: sunset, snorkeling, and evenings
By day you can stroll between the bays, swim, and lie on the sand. You can snorkel at a few beaches or on a short boat trip around the island, and in the evening the main beach usually has restaurants on the sand and sometimes fire shows. Getting around the island
Getting around the island is simple: open pickup trucks for passengers, motorbike taxis, and walking between nearby beaches. The roads are narrow and partly undeveloped, so do not lock in a tight daily schedule. When to come: season and weather
Koh Samet is generally known as a place where rain is less pronounced than on Thailand's west coast, so you can visit even in months when the south is more affected.
