Thailand in January
January sits right in Thailand's classic high season — dry weather across almost the whole country, with the most pleasant temperatures of the year, especially in the north.
Weather by Region
In the south (Phuket, Koh Samui) it's warm and pleasant, around 28-32°C. In the north (Chiang Mai) it's cooler, especially at night — it can drop to 15-18°C, so a warm layer is worth packing if your trip includes both.
Crowds and Prices
This is the most crowded and expensive season of the year. Popular hotels can fill up weeks to months in advance, and prices can run 30-50% higher than low season.
