Not all Thailand destinations are in the same price range. Less touristy destinations like Kanchanaburi, Lampang, Phitsanulok, and Hat Yai tend to offer similar quality at a significantly lower price than Phuket or Koh Samui in peak season — mainly because demand is lower, not because quality is lower.
