Phitsanulok is a central city in north-central Thailand, known mainly for the Wat Phra Si Rattana Mahathat temple with one of Thailand's most revered Buddha statues. Also serves as a convenient waypoint between Bangkok and the north.

Practical tips

•Phitsanulok is a convenient base for a day trip to Sukhothai (about an hour's drive) — many combine both destinations.
•Tourist sites are concentrated in the city center and reachable on foot or tuk-tuk, unlike other northern destinations.
•Less English infrastructure than other tourist destinations — useful to download a translation app.
