Israel to Thailand: How to Beat Jet Lag and Start Your Trip Fresh
The flight and the time difference: what to expect
A direct flight from Israel to Bangkok usually takes roughly nine to eleven hours, depending on the route and winds. With a stopover, the total is longer. Compare the options in our guide to direct versus connecting flights.
Thailand is on UTC+7. Israel is UTC+2 on winter time and UTC+3 on summer time, so the gap is about five hours in winter and four in summer. Check the clock-change dates for the year you fly.
How to prepare before you fly
No dramatic changes are needed, but you can shift your sleep by half an hour to an hour in the days before, earlier if you are flying east. Start the flight rested, not after a sleepless night.
Pack comfortable clothes, a warm layer for the air conditioning, socks and an eye mask. If you need ideas, our packing list will help.
On the plane: comfort, water and sleep
Drink water throughout the flight and go easy on alcohol and coffee, which can make sleep harder. Get up and walk now and then, and do simple stretches in your seat.
If you can sleep, try to sleep on Thai time. If not, rest still helps. If you have health concerns or questions about taking medication on a flight, check with a doctor before you travel.
Your first days in Bangkok
You usually arrive in the morning or evening. After landing, try to reach your accommodation without stress. Our airport to city guide will save you hassle. You can also pick a stay in Bangkok near public transport.
Plan something light for day one: a walk, a meal and a gentle massage. Avoid strenuous routes or long tours. On day two you can step it up gradually.
Light, food and the first night
Daylight is the strongest tool for adjusting to the new clock. Get outside in the morning, even if you are tired, and avoid long afternoon naps. If you must nap, keep it to thirty or forty minutes.
Eat meals at local times. On the first evening, do not force yourself to stay awake, but do not go to bed too early either. Most people need around three to four days to adjust, though it varies from person to person.
The short version: an adjustment plan
Before the flight: shift your sleep slightly. On board: drink, move and rest. After landing: morning light, an easy first day, meals at local times.
Do not pack the first days with plans. Use our trip itinerary planner and leave day one open.
