7-Eleven in Thailand isn't just a convenience mini-market — it's almost a cultural institution. There are thousands of branches across the country, open 24 hours, and each offers much more than snacks and drinks.
What's Worth Buying There
Hot ready meals (toaster sandwiches, rice with toppings) for 20-50 baht — a cheap option, surprisingly good for a quick meal. Water and cold coconut are always available and cheap. Local SIM cards are also sold there, convenient for those who need one right upon arrival.
Additional Services Worth Knowing About
Bill payment (including sometimes local invoices), phone card top-ups, and even printing and copying at machines in some branches. For small emergencies (missing something basic), 7-Eleven is almost always nearby and available.

On trips to remote destinations or small islands, worth knowing if there's a nearby 7-Eleven — usually guarantees basic access to water, snacks, and simple medications even in less developed areas.
Credit Cards and Payment
Most 7-Eleven branches in cities accept credit cards alongside cash, but small or remote branches sometimes only take cash — worth always carrying a bit of small cash, especially for tiny purchases where a card isn't always worthwhile for the seller.
Not the Same Everywhere
Branches in big cities and tourist centers offer a wider selection (sometimes including imported items); branches in more rural areas are more limited but still cover the basics — water, snacks, and ready food.
What About Other Chains
Alongside 7-Eleven there's also Family Mart and Tesco Lotus Express, with a similar selection and sometimes slightly more competitive prices — not on every corner like 7-Eleven, but worth knowing they exist as an alternative.

On trips to remote or less developed destinations, access to a 7-Eleven can be the difference between a minor issue and a real problem — missing water, a basic medication, or an expired SIM card. Worth checking in advance if the next destination on your route has a nearby branch.

What to Try in Snacks and Drinks
Beyond the ready meals, branches have a whole shelf of local snacks, such as crispy seaweed, rice crackers, potato chips in unusual flavors and sweets made for local taste. The drinks shelf is interesting too: iced tea, iced coffee, soy drinks and juices. Some products are sweeter than we are used to, so it is worth reading the label. A Small Emergency Kit in the Store
Branches sell almost everything for a small fix: sunscreen, mosquito repellent, an umbrella, chargers and cables, simple medicines such as painkillers, a rain poncho and toiletries. The selection varies between branches, and a familiar brand is not always available. If you need a specific medicine, a pharmacy is a better address. Water, Ice and Basic Safety Rules
If you worry about stomach upsets, branches have sealed bottled water and cold drinks at every hour. Always check that the cap is closed and intact. Budget and What Not to Buy There
7-Eleven is convenient, but not always the cheapest. Basics like fruit, large quantities of water or a hot meal may cost less in local shops and markets. If you manage your budget closely, you can combine: water and snacks from the store, main meals from street stalls.
