A local community of 'sea gypsies' (Moken) who've lived off fishing in the area for generations.
Practical tips
- •The island is relatively large and elongated — a scooter or rental car helps a lot for getting between the different beaches.
- •Rainy season here is more significant than in Phuket — many businesses close entirely between May and October, worth checking before booking.
- •Koh Lanta is significantly quieter than Phuket and Krabi — not the right destination for those seeking nightlife.
